Tandlægebesøg kan virke skræmmende for børn, men det behøver det ikke være. Du kan nemlig gøre meget for at forberede dit barn, så det bliver en god oplevelse. Læs med her, og få indblik i, hvordan du forholder dig til dit barns behov for tandlægebesøg.
Normalt bryder barnets tænder frem seks til otte måneder efter fødslen, og dit barn bliver indkaldt til det første tandlægebesøg, når han eller hun er omkring et år. Den tidlige alder ved det første tandlægebesøg giver god mulighed for, at du fra begyndelsen kan vænne dit barn til, at det er en god oplevelse at gå til tandlægen.
Hos tandlægen lærer barn og forældre, hvordan de bedst passer på barnets tænder, og introduktionen til god tandhygiejne fra en tidlig alder spiller en stor rolle i forebyggelsen af fremtidige tandproblemer.
Gode vaner og hyppige tandlægebesøg
Sunde tænder er vigtige for dit barns generelle sundhed, og derfor er det vigtigt, at I får indført nogle gode vaner i forbindelse med tandhygiejne. Sørg for at børste dit barns tænder to gange om dagen med en tandpasta med fluor. Barnet må gerne prøve at børste selv, men indtil 10-årsalderen skal en forælder klare det meste af tandbørstningen.
Tandlægebesøg kan være en udfordring for visse børn, og det er derfor vigtigt at forberede dem grundigt på, hvad der skal ske. Hvis den ene forælder lider af tandlægeskræk, så sørg for, at det er den anden forælder, der tager med barnet til tandlæge. Så opstår der nemlig ikke unødig nervøsitet, som kan smitte af på barnet.
Desuden kan du derhjemme forberede dit barn til tandlægebesøget gennem leg. I kan for eksempel lege tandlæge, hvor I skiftes til at ligge i ”tandlægestolen”. For eksempel kan I bruge et sugerør til at puste på hinandens tænder, så I efterligner tandlægens redskaber, eller bruge et lille spejl til at kigge ind i munden.
Er dit barn alligevel nervøst, når han eller hun kommer hen til tandlægen, kan du med fordel selv lægge dig i tandlægestolen med barnet på maven. Det giver tryghed og ro. Heldigvis er personalet på langt de fleste tandklinikker gode til at håndtere børn, og med masser af tålmodighed, venlighed, og måske en lille belønning til sidst, er der en god chance for, at dit barn går glad hjem fra tandlægen.
Akut tandlægehjælp
Børn leger som bekendt meget, og hvis uheldet er ude, kan der opstå tandskader. Hvis dit barn får tandskader eller tandpine, skal du kontakte dit barns tandklinik, så skaden hurtigst muligt kan behandles. Tandpine og tandsmerter hører til de mest ubehagelige former for smerter, og selvom dit barn måske stadig har sine mælketænder, skal smerten tages alvorligt. Opstår problemet uden for tandklinikkens åbningstid, for eksempel i weekender, skoleferier eller lignende, skal du have fat i en vagtklinik. Den kan du finde ved at søge på din kommunes hjemmeside. Er du så uheldig, at dit barns tandskade eller tandpine opstår uden for vagtklinikkens åbningstid, kan du i stedet benytte dig af en privat tandklinik. Din kommune betaler nemlig for nødbehandling af børn og unge.
Også voksne kan få brug for akut tandlægehjælp uden for tandlægens normale åbningstid. Er du bosiddende i København, kan du benytte dig af Tandlægerne Enghave Plads. Her står et erfarent team af dygtige tandlæger, tandplejere og specialtandlæger klar til at behandle dit akutte tandproblem. Udover at modtage akutte patienter i åbningstiden, modtager de også patienter om lørdagen, uden ekstra weekendtillæg.
Som tidligere beskrevet skal dit barn helst have en god oplevelse ved tandlægen hver gang. Derfor er det vigtigt, at tandskader, tandpine og lignende efterses så snart problemet opstår. Venter man for længe, er der nemlig stor sandsynlighed for, at problemet vokser og bliver værre. Det giver i sidste ende dit barn en endnu dårligere oplevelse hos tandlægen.
